Lyrics to NIGHT MACHINE and the plan moving forward....

Hello, friends, and welcome to the ISOLUS blog#4. First, the lyrics to the first mass distributed debut of ISOLUS, called NIGHT MACHINE:

NIGHT MACHINE

This city melts your bones

reading books as I miss home

and the big hand sweeps it all

away

Eternity means time

never stops and it don't like

my vibe - or my life

i wait and I miss my friends

when will I meet you again

tugging at my sleeve

throw up my hands and leave

making me believe

smile while I grieve

And then- there you are

splendor in neon tarnish

you said we'd never part

mold under the varnish

tears streak through the night

and the dirty yellow streetlights

while the endless night shines on

and ever on

Solar walkway lights

sputter as I walk tonight

besides the ghost of your smile

I spot swirls in the blackness

intimate there's no forgiveness

render hearts benign

idle at the stop sign

never will revive

the joy in your eyes

And then- there you are splendor in neon tarnish you said we'd never part mold under the varnish

Very happy with how this song turned out, and the poetry is very nice if I do say so myself. And I just did say it. This one used to be called "rubus incombustus" and I have had the main v1 part done for about 2 years. Got a jazzmaster and that inspired me to finish it and what a fun end result. "fun", anyway. Kind of dreary also in a way. But I enjoy that dichotomy. You will see that pop up a lot, like in "Fix your smile", where it is somewhat peppy musically but awful lyrically. I enjoy that melange.

Next, the plan moving ahead. So I have a ton of music recorded. Like, almost 50 songs. Some are covers, when I was doing what I call a Proof of Concept, that I could actually do all of this on my own (spoiler: I can!). It was also a way to deal with the stress of my cancer treatment and recovery process. Musically, cancer was the best thing to happen to me, as it reignited the joie de vivre in the music creation process that I had lost chasing a career of late. I realized something very important: life is brief, you will die, and therefore do not forget to live. and that you can have both things: a career and a creative hustle on the side and never the twain shall meet. and that is healthy and good. Everyone should try it as everyone has a talent. What's yours?

So anyhoooooooo: my thought is this: release an LP of a mix of the cover songs I have recorded, along with the early songs I wrote, that were inspired by artists I admire. I basically took a year and challenged myself to write a song inspired by a given band, like Siouxsie and the Banshees, for instance (something that turned into "The Creeper Song"). For instance:

  1. Curve - "slow shroud"

  2. Depeche Mode - "salusa"

  3. The Smiths - "love is a blindfolded walk right off of a cliff"

  4. Ride/ Ned's Atomic Dustbin - "mister soil sample"

  5. The Used - "Stay Away From Me"

You get the picture. So that is my next task, cleaning up these songs to release all at once, so I can release the stuff that is later, better, deeper, and more my sound as it has come to be defined.

The trouble continues the genre jumping. I realized recently that I have a lot in common with the Editors, who have been seeming to do one guitar record and one electronic record, back and forth, somewhat recently. While White Lies seem to meld the desire to do guitar work with their electronics.... I am more between the two. I should not have to choose how I want to work on any given song, so I just will do what comes naturally, and so be it. So expect the unexpected I suppose.

Shhhhh - next song to be released is called "the daystar and the nightstar". I just finished the video and it is very Catherine Wheel-esque, which I love. I even threw in some "adam and eve" moments in there that you might catch if you are a fan of that band.

All my best, thanks for reading, and be well!
